Atlanta Motor Speedway's Thursday Thunder Week Two Notes
Short-track racing returns to Atlanta Motor Speedway's quarter-mile "Thunder Ring" for the second of 10 weeks of Thursday Thunder racing on Thursday, June 11
Monday, June 8, 2009
This week's Thursday Thunder feature theme is Georgia Auto Racing Hall of Fame Night and Clayton County Chamber of Commerce Night. In addition to eight classes of Legends, Bandolero and Thunder Roadster racing, Thursday Thunder's second week will also include a vintage race car display from the Georgia Auto Racing Hall of Fame, a Kids' Candy & Coin Scramble and an on-track autograph session with all Thursday Thunder drivers.
Vintage Race Car Display for Georgia Auto Racing HOF Night
Georgia Auto Racing Hall of Fame Night at Thursday Thunder will include a vintage race car display on the Atlanta Motor Speedway grandstand concourse. The display will feature several restored race cars, including a replica of Georgia native Jack Smith's 1938 Ford Coupe that competed on both the Daytona Beach course and Lakewood Speedway, the historic one-mile dirt track located in South Atlanta until the track's closing in 1979.
Kids' Candy & Coin Scramble
The Kids' Candy & Coin Scramble returns for racing's youngest fans attending Atlanta Motor Speedway's second week of Thursday Thunder. During intermission, kids will be allowed to come onto the Atlanta Motor Speedway infield to participate in the Kids' Candy & Coin Scramble. The Kids' Candy & Coin Scramble is open to all children in attendance and allows them to sprawl across the Atlanta Motor Speedway "ball field" and scramble for free coins and candy!
Autograph and Photograph Session - All Classes
In addition to the on-track excitement, race fans will be invited onto the Atlanta Motor Speedway frontstretch for an autograph session featuring all Thursday Thunder competitors. While each week of Thursday Thunder includes an autograph session with a featured class, the season-ending championship night is the only other Thursday Thunder autograph session that will give race fans access to every driver in each class.
Featuring a full slate of short-track racing, Thursday Thunder is an affordably-priced activity that offers something for spectators of all ages. Tickets are just $5 for adults and $1 for children 6-11 (ages 5 and under are free) for each evening of family fun and grass-roots racing. Gates open at 6 p.m., heat races start at 6:15 p.m. and feature races start at approximately 7:50 p.m. For more information about Thursday Thunder, contact the Atlanta Motor Speedway ticket office at (770) 946-4211 or visit http://www.atlantamotorspeedway.com/.
